For over a dozen years, we at Hereafter have been celebrating the joy of gifting. When I can have a genuine connection to the beauty that is possible in the act of gift giving, I feel energized by the same sense of possibility I felt when I first started this small business. I’ve been reflecting on how easy it is to become disconnected from myself when I operate at the speed of modern life and can’t offer to myself the space to ponder and reflect upon the things that I do and why Hereafter exists.
Offering a gift, at its most genuine, is a beautiful offering of care and of one’s heart. It is not so important the gift that is given, but rather the intention behind it. As a recipient, oftentimes the most profound gifts I’ve received are the ones outside of the material realm. Kind people have been generous with their patience, with their time, and with their care. When I can slow down enough to really take that in, I am lifted by how generosity comes so naturally to people. When I can offer a gift with no expectation of anything in return, that is the nourishment that makes my heart bloom. I hope our gifts can be gifted with a bit of that spirit living in them.
For some of us, it may be most natural to practice this generous gift giving spirit with our family, loved ones, and friends. I’m buoyed by the aspiration to expand this gift giving heart to ever widening circles of care.
As I hold these aspirations while feeling the effects of living in a seemingly troubled world, the friction between aspiration and reality can sometimes be difficult to process. As such, I’m embarking on a brief sabbatical at the end of this year to spend some months at a Buddhist monastery. My hope is to nourish my vision for a generous, just, harmonious world while also being grounded in the reality of our world as it is — troubles and all. I’m excited to see what I discover.
I appreciate crossing paths with you through Hereafter and wish you much love and care. Thank you for supporting our small business!
With care,
Yvonne
